1. What Data We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

  • Your Google account email address
  • Your display name (as set in your Google account)

If you use optional profile features, we also store:

  • Dietary preferences you set on your profile
  • Budget preference and postcode (used for the "Find Ingredients Near You" feature)
  • Recipe submissions (title, ingredients, instructions, and any image URL you provide)

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Authentication — your email identifies your account so you can sign in and access profile features.
  • Personalisation — dietary preferences and budget are used to tailor featured recipes and store results.
  • Moderation — submitted recipes are reviewed by a site administrator before they appear publicly.
  • Analytics — if Google Analytics 4 is enabled, aggregated, anonymised usage data (pages visited, searches performed) is collected to help improve the site. No personally identifiable information is sent to Google Analytics.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is stored in MongoDB Atlas (cloud database) and is accessible only to the site administrator (Justin Howe).

Third-party services used by JustCookIt:

  • Google OAuth — used for sign-in; governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Geoapify — used to find nearby supermarkets; your approximate location (two decimal places) is sent to Geoapify when you use the store locator feature.
  • Google Analytics 4 (if enabled) — anonymised page-view and event data.

4. Cookies

JustCookIt uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie is essential for the service to function and does not track you across other websites. If Google Analytics 4 is active, GA4 may set additional cookies for measurement purposes.

5. Data Retention

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Submitted recipes remain on the platform unless you request removal. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of the personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, email howejust@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Request".
